NASA High-Definition Earth-Viewing System

While responding to NASA and one of its astronauts today about a video they posted, another Twitter user sent me a link to this project.  It not only gives a great view of what the Earth looks like as it passes beneath the ISS at 17,000 miles per hour, but you can track the ISS location by ground in the Google Maps frame below the camera view.

NASA describes the project as follows: The High Definition Earth Viewing (HDEV) experiment places four commercially available HD cameras on the exterior of the space station and uses them to stream live video of Earth for viewing online.

You should check it out — it’s really cool to watch.  I’ve also added it to the External Links page on the site.
