GTD Review: Todo Cloud

Overview

I recently evaluated Appigo’s Todo Cloud 7, formerly known as Todo Pro.  It does just-short job of supporting the GTD process.  For example, it doesn’t have project status (e.g., Next Action, Someday/Maybe, Waiting) or projects, though you could, in theory, use tags for the statuses.  They use lists rather than projects, which aren’t significantly different in function, though you can also code tasks as projects, which allows you to create subtasks as though they were tasks in a project.  The whole setup is kind of confusing and frankly, unnecessarily so.

The web platform is built on HTML5 and permits some simple drag-and-drop operations.  Double-clicking a task opens a modal that allows you to update the task’s features.  You can also select tasks for deletion or to drag them to a context, but that’s about it for bulk editing.

This is a premium service with a 14-day free trial.

Pros

  • Partially cross-platform with support for Mac, apps for both iOS and Android.
  • Supports subtasks, which many people find beneficial for task management.
  • Allows you to collaborate easily when delegating a task.

Cons

  • Windows users rely on a web-based app which requires internet access.
  • Doesn’t support primary GTD task statuses.
  • Can’t organize by anything other than due date.

Let’s see how the features compare against my list:

User Interface

I don’t like the UI at all and frankly, I believe it hides or complicates the features the program offers.  It’s bad enough that I would probably find myself reluctant to use the application.
